ABOUT EVERGREEN THEATRE
Thank you for visiting the home of Evergreen Theatre. We are a nonprofit community theatre company that supports the greater Green Bay, WI area. Our organization is committed to offering professional quality entertainment for our guests while advancing the arts in our community.
We perform at the Webb Theatre, St. Norbert College, De Pere, WI. Being the only multi-generational live theatre group in Northeast Wisconsin, we take pride in cultivating our talent by providing educational opportunities in ALL facets of the performing arts. Perhaps you have interest in directing or learning lighting design; we have the quality professionals willing to teach you those traits. Children and teens can also take part in our popular Evergreen Theatre Drama Club or during the summer take part in our renowned young actor summer theatre arts program. Whatever your age, we have opportunities for you!
This season we celebrate our 31st Anniversary and have assembled one of our greatest seasons yet for your enjoyment. You can count on Evergreen Theatre's commitment to quality productions along with a few other treats this season.
NEXT DOOR THEATRE
In 1969, Next Door Theatre’s production of Alice in Wonderland opened up the theatre community to children with its defining vision: "Theatre By and For Children". This vision was rigorously practiced through many years of excellent productions, often with an entire cast of young people performing. Next Door Theatre also began and maintained a tradition of Touring Productions, performed in schools across Northeast Wisconsin. The yearly visit by NDT became, for area students, a highly-anticipated, fun, and educational centerpiece of their school community. Next Door Theatre established a very high standard for children's theatre that was, in no way, "childish". Young people were treated as sophisticated and capable patrons and participants in the fine arts. As a result, children's theater in Green Bay is on par with the very best adult productions in quality, depth, and impact.
THE MERGER
Evergreen Theatre and Next Door Theatre had done a great deal of cooperating and supporting of each other's productions throughout their history. Also, the vision and purpose of the two organizations were quite similar, making an official merger the next logical step. So, the friendship became a marriage, as the two became one organization: Evergreen Theatre. So as not to lose any of the momentum and direction of Next Door Theatre, Evergreen formed its Young Actors program and differentiated it from the Mainstage, adult program.
The Rabbit that has identified the Young Actors program was the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, who stepped out of Wonderland to lead Next Door Theatre. As Evergreen grows and develops, the Young Actors program has carved out its own identity, even establishing, in 2013, The Summer Theater Arts and Creativity Program. This educational summer program teaches young people about all aspects of the theatre, with classes on acting, improvisation, directing, stage management, sound and light design, costuming, and even playwriting. With this approach, students have the opportunity to not only enjoy theatre, but to take personal ownership in creating incredible productions!
Evergreen is dedicated to reaching for the extremely high standards set by Next Door Theatre and continues the tradition of a yearly touring production. Season Tickets are available for both the Mainstage and the Young Actors shows. With four Mainstage productions and three Young Actors productions - plus the tour show - each season, Evergreen is positioned to truly infect people of all ages with an experience and growing passion for great theatre!
